In what has to be the first occurance of a US President engaged in international soccer smacktalk, Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula Da Silva gave President Obama a signed Brazilian soccer jersey at today’s G-8 meeting, signed by the national team that defeated the U.S., 3-2, in last month’s Confederation’s Cup…

“Hey, look at this. Beautiful. Alright. Wonderful. I like that,” Obama said.

Chatting with the president in Portuguese, in remarks overheard by reporters, Lula spoke enthusiastically about the match, repeatedly using President Obama’s catch phrase “Yes we can.”

Later, President Obama gave his take on the loss.

“You know I was a little frustrated, but Brazil’s a pretty good team,” the president later told reporters. “I told them we’re not gonna give up a 2 goal lead again.”
