After being told he’ll never wear his country’s colors again and seeing his time at Glasgow Rangers depleted for the same reason, Barry Ferguson is looking set to make his return to the Barclay’s Premiership with old coach Alex McLeish and top flight returnee’s Birmingham.

Rangers have confirmed that they have accepted a bid of £1m, but add-ons could eventually take the figure up to £1.25m. The paperwork was being completed tonight with a three-year deal expected to be sorted out within the next 48 hours.
Ferguson’s representative John Viola says the transfer fee has already been finalised. Viola will travel to Birmingham and join in talks over personal terms.
Birmingham have been looking at other younger midfielders too but McLeish has long been an admirer of 31-year-old Ferguson.
The ex-Rangers skipper was stripped of his club and county’s captaincy after a drinking session and making offensive gestures, so he has fallen out of favour at Ibrox. It has been estimated that Ferguson’s departure will reduce the club’s wage bill by about £30,000 a week.
He is due to complete a medical at Birmingham and could join the squad on their pre-season tour of Austria, starting on Sunday.Image via TartanArmySoldier
