Lionel Messi To Become Barcelona’s Highest Paid

Not only has Joan Laporta announced that he is upping Argentine International Lionel Messi’s contract to be the top earner at Barcelona, but the buyout on the 22 year old’s buyout is now in the 300 Million Euro range.

The Blaugrana president described the Argentinian as a “leader”, noting that the youngster should be treated as one, beginning with his basic salary and buy-out clause.

According to reports on Monday, Messi’s buy-out clause will double to €300 million, while his wages will move ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s.

“There’s a very good relation between all parties. They know that we want the player to feel happy here, he’s a great player, a home grown lad and we’re proud to have him, the best player in the world with us at the club. The negotiations are coming along fine,” Laporta told the club’s official website

“Barca will always do whatever is needed to keep him happy here and we know that he has a real commitment to Barca, which has to be reflected in how we treat him at all levels. The club will always honour that commitment and love that he has for Barca.

“Messi has become a leader this season and that has been possible thanks to the skill of his manager and the fact that the staff have worked to build a great squad.”
