FINAL UPDATE:

We put out the challenge to get your folks to vote for you to win these boots, and you guys responded. Thanks again to everyone that entered and to all of those that voted for who they thought should win these boots. At this point, the contest is up and we would like to announce the winner.

Congrats to Limo! Your crew came through for you and the boots are yours. More info will be emailed to you.

Thanks again to everyone for participating!

There have been some great comments from all of you about why each of you should win the custom adidas boots. To be honest, there is no way that we can pick a winner from this. So instead, we’ve decided to let all of you decide who wins the boots.

Whoever gets the most votes via the comments section of this post is going to win the boots. Get your friends, family, teammates, whatever, to vote for you. Only requirement is that the vote comes from a valid email address. So have your peoples vote for you in the comments section, and the most votes win! Go get em!

Sneaker customization is nothing new. But fully customized soccer boots is something you odn’t see all the time. In last nights MLS All Star Game, Stu Holden, Conor Casey and Freddy Montero all wore one-of-a-kind boots that they personally designed through miadidas.com. Each player got to bring some individuality to the game and had the chance to let their personality shine through via the boots they designed.

Now it’s your chance to win the opportunity to have the same experience these three MLS All Stars had. We’ve teamed with adidas on a contest where one TOW reader will win not only a pair of boots, but the experience of being able to customize the adidas boots and put your own steez on them. Imagine stepping out on the field wearing boots that you designed and made your own! Crazy right!

All you need to do is leave a comment telling us why you should win this contest and you could be designing your own pair of custom adidas boots. Be creative and go get it!

Our boy Stu Holden certainly expressed himself through his boots - I think he may have worn them on the wrong feet when he gave that ball away to Saha.

  2. KK says

As a former GK for 15+ years (played GK at my small liberal arts college), and having re-invented myself as a holding midfielder for my adult co-ed rec team (I’m 31 now), my ability and creativity with the ball is fairly limited (no Ronaldo chops here). This might be my best chance to express my originality on the pitch - with my kicks!

  3. tim in houston says

i should win these because im getting into a soccer league here @ work and will be playing my FIRST game ever. what better way to step on the pitch for the first time with a brand new pair of boots provided by the baddest site on the web and adidas.

  4. Goat says

I think I should win this here contest because my Copas have too many holes in them and I need some motivation to get off my fat ass and start playing again (rather than simply watching and reading about soccer). Also, I’d totally donate them to a poor, starving, child from a developing country.

  5. nels says

would want this chance because as a broke college kid with debts I have to resort to odd jobs every season to get a new pair of copa mundials. Ive always convinced myself that those high price boots are all just hype because i could never afford a pair of my own. Would be awesome to have a pair to call my own - literally.

  6. mitchell says

i think i should get the chance to design my own boots because i’ve been playing the game since i was a little kid and this fall am about to start coaching a kids team for the first time. i couldn’t think of a better way to start of my career teaching the game kids then with a new pair of boots.

  7. Joe says

Ok, well, as a frequent contributer to this site I would like these to donate to a charity. I am actually volunteering at a camp this sumer called Camp POWER and I would put that camp name on the cleats and donate them to a camper who exemplified strong character and a love for soccer.
This camp is for underpriveleged kids from Brooklyn and they get to go completely free due to the generosity of volunteers and corporate donors. This would make a great gift for one of them. Please contact me if you would like more information or validation on this camp.

  8. Nick says

As a college student, I haven’t had much spare cash to buy a nice pair of cleats. I’m strongly considering grad school after I graduate next spring, and given the current economic climate this probably means I will remain completely unable to afford some nice boots to play in. If I could design a pair myself, that’d make a what would already be a luxury that much more awesome.

  9. Adam says

In my 20 years on god’s green earth I have lived in El Paso, TX. Every single day I’ve been called a pocho (I’m not hispanic at all, but I’m brown so apparently I’m automatically of Mexican descent), a gringo and a spazzo. The only chance I get to shut up the sh*t talkers is on the pitch. Every time we start a game and I burn everyone down the field or turn a defender and bury it in the net or score a chip from 30 yards out, I am able to let my game speak for itself. No comebacks, no insults, just game. A nice pair of Red White and Blue boots would be a perfect little accent to shut up all the mouthy guys wearing green during pick up games.

  10. Martin says

Pretty much need anything that could improve my game from terrible to not so terrible…. that and my old Umbro specials are falling apart, but its heart breaking to let them go, so it has to be for something VERY VERY special so they understand.

  11. Limo says

Soccer, plain and simple, is my religion, my passion, my obsession. I like to put my own style on my game, playing with flair and creativity. When I’ve got a spare minute, I grab a ball and start juggling and doing tricks, finding new ways to “put my own steez” on the game. And If I’m not playing the game, I’m working for it, watching it, or just day-dreaming about it. I’ve got an internship (unpaid unfortunately) with the New England Revolution, I’m the captain, and manager of my school’s club team as a sophomore, and throughout the year I involve myself in the charitable side of the game, such as organizing a Lose the Shoes charity soccer tournament at my school, where all of the proceeds go to Ethan Zohn’s Grassroot Soccer program.

Earlier in the summer, I actually went on the mi adidas site to create my own adipure 2’s, but unfortunately, with racking up the student loans, I don’t have the money to actually make those boots a reality. I’d love to win this contest and be given the opportunity to have a new way to make my game unique and a representation of me.

  12. Blake says

I don’t want to go all Oprah on you guys but this seems like the opportunity I’ve been looking for. I play a lot of footy but I’ve had the same old dirty adidas kicks for a few years that are starting to fall apart.

Anyway, I started up a club team with a few friends during my senior year of high school, and we’re coming up on our third season. We haven’t had the most success on the pitch but we’ve had a lot of fun and grown closer over it. Sadly, though, at the start of this summer, two of my teammmates, Zach and Ryan, were killed in a car accident. Those guys loved soccer so much and I loved playing with them. I’ve been looking for a way to commemorate them every time I play, and all I’ve come up with is writing their numbers on my old adidas boots with a sharpie. A kid on my team got our team crest tatted to remember them by, and I think it’d be awesome to personalize a set of kicks to memorialize them.

  13. Alex says

This upcoming year will probably be the most important of my soccer playing life. I will be a junior in high school, and will be trying out for the varsity soccer team, but let me give you a little backstory. I have played soccer all my life, but only got serious about following it and playing it in 2006, after I saw my first World Cup. I had always liked soccer, but after seeing the passion and skill the sport inspired firsthand, I decided I wanted to become a serious supporter, but more importantly, a serious player. I quit my rec team, which was difficult in 7th grade because all my best friends were on it, to try out for the “advanced” travel league to improve myself. It was technically still run by a recreational program, but it was the most I could hope for given my family’s financial circumstances. Luckily I did well at the tryouts, but little did I know I had no idea what I was doing. Over the next 2 years I watched and played all the soccer I could, knowing that it’s what I really wanted to do. Right in the middle of my freshman year of high school, my dad’s job in the military took us across the country to a small town in northwestern Washington, which was extremely difficult for me. But that’s a story for another day; the point is, my first day of school was also the first day of tryouts. After a week of more intense physical and mental competition than I had ever experienced, I learned I made the varsity team. I spent the season under probably one of the most qualified high school coaches in the country, Jim Schemmer. He has coaching experience at Juventus in Italy and Vasco da Gama in Brazil. I improved by leaps and bounds that year, physically, but also in the more cerebral aspects of the game. I was looking forward to a great sophomore year as a starter, when I learned that my dad’s career was again moving us to Virginia Beach, VA. I knew I wasn’t going to have the same experience as my freshman year, but I was shocked when I found myself trying out with players who played for ODP and youth national teams. I barely made the JV team. To make matters worse, the JV coach was a boneheaded idiot who knew nothing about soccer (he once pulled the goalie, hockey style, with 10 minutes left in the game, when we were only 1 goal down.) I had a terrible experience that year, and I had to rely on myself to self motivate and not lose sight of my real dream; to play soccer for a living. I have been working out, training, and finding opportunities to play on my own all summer long, and know that I’m still a longshot to make the varsity high school team next year. I’m at a disadvantage to most of the other guys trying out, being that they have been in high level programs since they were at least 8. But I don’t want to lose sight of this dream I have by going from varsity starter as a freshman to nothing at all as a Junior. I know I can still train on my own if this doesn’t work out for me but it would be a huge blow. And while I know the boots don’t make the player, and my chances will still be relatively the same whether I win this contest or not, any help at all would be a huge boost to my ultimate dream; to be a professional soccer player.

  14. martyg says

Hey TOW! I should win those boots because I need some new ones. I work full time, just had my first child and am desperately saving to marry my girlfriend of 2 years. Despite all this I still find time to play football twice a week but i only have these $20 clearance nikes from Dicks that I bought like 4 years ago. I could really use the hook up on a new proper pair since it doesnt look like I’ll be able to afford new ones anytime soon. Also the best shoes i ever had were my Copa Munidal I had as a kid and would love to try out the new generation of Adidas shoes! Thanks.

  15. Eight says

Can i help judge? :) I play five to six times a week, and burn through a pair of boots inside a month. A quality pair of boots like these would get destroyed on my feet before autumn turns the first leaf brown. But i have enjoyed reading the entries!

  16. Keith says

I still play soccer at a fairly high level and would love to win these shoes but after reading a previous post, give them to the dude that is wearing the $20 clearance nikes from Dick’s. You shouldn’t have to play the beautiful game in a cheap plastic cleat like that.

  17. Russell says

I loved Beckenbauer Supers growing up! Adidas has the footie heritage that no other company can match. In my comeback season after head tumor surgery, I need all the help I can get on the field!!!!

Long time customer mention = done
Suck up to sponsor = done
Tug at the heartstings = done

Despite our collective cynicism….all above is true.

  18. Ronaldo is a fatty says

I think flashy boots make the other team (initially) write you off as superficial (unless it’s the second fixture of the season) and that is a great advantage right up until you score or school your mark. After that they’re on to you and notice you by your boots which makes you improve even more as a player. I always go with the best colour scheme I can find, and nothing fits like an adidas 33 and a third boot and that’s why I would love the opportunity to design my own boot, have my mark write me off as superficial until I put the ball upper 90 from outside the box!

  19. Kyle says

So I am the player/head coach of my premiere club team in Denver. Still playing center middie with these youngsters while in my 30s. During a tournament this weekend, I was standing at midfield with my defense, during an on-field injury, and my keeper says…”what’s up with those Predator Manias?” I explained that I’ve been rockin’ my Manias since college which means this kid was wearing LA Gear in 7th grade at the time. I told the boy that I still had 2 goals left in those Manias. Minutes later I lined up a free kick from about 25 yards out and laced it far post. That means I only got 1 goal left before I retire them. It’s only a matter of time. I wanna get some sweet custom boots to show off to these youngsters and let them know their coach is still the #10 shirt on the pitch. I think I’ll get “SVEN” down the side so the boys know that these boots belong to the Gaffer!

  20. Joshua says

I bought some custom soccer cleats once. I walked into the store and the guy asked me what size and I told him 10. He brought back that exact size, hence custom shoes. He must have had a machine in the back that made the custom shoes or something. Also, I found this odd but I only picked up the one Adidas shoe (it was the right one) and yet he brought back BOTH the right and the left. This was a good thing too since I found only cleats for the right foot in the store and thought I might have to go to another store that sold only lefts.

  21. adam of berkeleysportsblog.com says

TOW: I should win this contest because for my entire life I’ve been having to get hand me down boots from my cousins, uncles and my dad. I’ve always made sure to make these old boots my own using all kinds of paint and sharpie to try and make them my own. I’ve been having to resort to the same F50s for the past few years even though they’ve gotten pretty messed up, I still have to stretch them till they just cant take it anymore. I think this is why I should get the boots! Let me put my F50s out to pasture.

  22. KGB says

With boots of my own design, a spot in the six yard box, and enough steroids to play MLB I could send a slow roller toward Tim Howard. It would be a great moment for all USA soccer fans as Timmy pretends to be troubled by my pathetic attempt and catches it with a 360 dive and full stretch.

  23. Patrick says

I would like to get these boots so that I can be more active than, being a Diabetic I have to excise daily and why not have fun when doing it. I dropped a lot of weight 80 pounds since I found out I was Diabetic and I just started to play again.

  24. dakotagrrl says

Looks like I’m the only chick who’s going to go for it, so here it is. My main reason for wanting a custom pair is that it’s so hard to find a pair of women’s boots that I get decent performance with. I usually resort to a small men’s pair, but then have serious (and painful)fit issues. I’ve been playing since I was nine and now at 32, I play for a women’s team in the Garden State Soccer League.

Sure, there are guys here that are more deserving than me, so this is a pretty long shot. If it ain’t me, than I trust you guys to give those boots to the right guy. All I can say is that if I did get them, I promise on all that is holy not to order them in pink.

Thanks for setting up this contest, you’re really going to make someone’s season special.

I don’t want the kicks but found Joe’s selflessness to be most interesting response. Living Brooklyn and coaching a boys U-12 team in Harlem, I have had the chance to see some passionate young kids, who, due to certain circumstances, are not able to participate in organized games let alone afford uniforms and cleats. Thankfully organizations like FC Harlem and Camp Power, are able to provide these kids with the opportunity to play football in under served areas of NYC and that is a great thing. Joe, I would like to learn more about Camp Power. Brian and Ben have my contact info if you want to reach out.

  27. Dave says

I did not start playing soccer until I was about 18. I grew up playing other sports, including volleyball in college, but I became hooked on soccer when I got into college. I had a group of friends introduce me to the game and now it is all I do. I live, breathe, and play soccer every chance I can. I am even hoping to work in soccer when I finish school. As a poor college kid I have not had a lot of cash and spending money on boots has not been a priority. I would love the chance to have some real football boots to truly enjoy the game on another level.

  32. Harold P. Creyon says

I vote for comment # 9 by Adam. I’ve been to Texas. I don’t like Texas. Hell, send him something with steel toes so he can kick them in the shins more effectively.

  33. Adam says

    Ugh, please delete Casanova’s comment…

  34. Todd says

#11 is the way to go with this decision folks. Plain and simple. Got the talent and the spirit to make this work. You’re missing out you don’t pick him.

#11 - Because as his former high school English teacher, I’m quite pleased at his coherent and well written passionate appeal;) It’s like he was paying attention when I teaching. That, and he’s a good kid.

  47. H says

I vote for #11 Limo. Clearly, he eats, sleeps, and breathes the game, so he deserves the boots.

  48. carrie says

    I vote #20.

  49. Minor Baker says

I am pretty sure the last thing holding me back from dominating my over-30 league is a pair of custom designed shoes. If I make them pretty enough people will assume that scoring is my main job on the team, and thereby give me more room to work (out of fear), because we all know that if you aren’t black shoes- your ass had better score loads of goals to earn the boots on your feet.

  50. HooleyMcCoolster says

    I vote for #9 Adam

  51. Amck says

My vote goes to #11. He’s a great guy with a lot of passion for the sport.

It really is a beautiful story and he just seems clutch.

  55. Cuauhtemoc Blanco says

I believe that I need the boots so that the refs will see feet come up better when I fall down from all the harsh tackles.

  56. Laura says

    #11!!!

  57. Sarabeth says

I don’t know how I got to this site, just searching shoes and voila. So I personally don’t believe I especially want soccer shoes, I think I might have golf shoes and I don’t golf but the could be soccer but I doubt that they’re very cute. So anyrate I read the comments and it was close for me however when all said and done I would like to vote (is there where I vote????) for #20, Joshua. Why you ask First off, Adam you got screwed when a “fan” dissed Texas. Besides which red, white blue cleats is not what you would do I call bullsh*t on you. If you want to wear shoes that aren’t green don’t buy them. I look awful in green therefore I do not own a green item of clothing. Everyone using the age excuse, really? Hi, I’m 32 and I’ll tell the truth I’d like to design my own shoes b/c I can not b/c I’m old. Age out of the picture. First time playing a game and you get customized shoes?? College students- yes we’re all broke in school, try to get free food or books, contribute to your education!!! Even if you’re a coach for soccer let a student of yours do this don’t be selfish. More college students comment above. I live and breath soccer, funny you have time to do this contest thing on the internet. Oprah guy you lost me at Oprah, call her. Guy next I fell asleep listening to your story. Call the newspaper, find a job there you seem to have an excellent chance in journalism being able to write so much about one tiny thing (yes I’m good at it too). hand me down shoes guy, such is life. Odd how cool it is to dress retro but god forbid you have old shoes. Dakota girl you were my 2nd choice and I debated but it just didn’t really get me, now I totally understand using your sex to get what you want but you make it sound like you don’t get what you want b/c you’re a girl. Fabulous thing, being a girl gets you what you want. You have boobs use them. SO # 20 you seem silly and I like that you didn’t use some down on luck story, people discriminate against me, I’m old or all of those other ploys. It does make sense in the oddest way when you really think about it, like asking about an eye exam and amazingly optometrists check BOTH eyes!! I am curious how he knew what you wanted customized and what not, did you visit a psychic shoe store? I would advise all to actually read this and go back to each story and vote for the person who is not trying to make you “feel” for them. If y’all do do that I would like customized wine, something red, dry and in an original bottle. Hey 20, Joshua, I got that at my wine club! Amazing! good luck to all the contestants and I hope all goes well for everyone.
    Thank you.

  58. Cindy says

i vote Joe #7 - big up to Brooklyn haha. keep doing good work!

  59. Alex says

While I’d love the chance to get these boots, and I appreciate nels’ vote, I honestly think Blake #12 deserves this most. I’m shocked I’m the first one to vote for him… but blake, you’ve got my vote.

  60. Adam says

I vote for #19 Kyle. He’s the man.

  61. Colin says

I’ve been caught in a haze of nostalgia for about the past year, wishing I had kept all the jerseys I had when I was a kid, wishing I never got rid of that poster of Alan Shearer I used to have in my bedroom and just generally wishing to relive all the great soccer parts of my life. So what would I do with the chance to create some custom boots? I would design them exactly like the first pair of boots I ever owned: These Adidas Stars from when I was six years old. Check them out.

  75. tink says

    #11 limo…he’s dope

  76. Nate says

I really connect with Limo’s drive to put his own flair on the game. In soccer, players are remembered not only by what they bring to the team, but what attributes they alone possess. “He’s the guy who can juggle with his eyes closed;” “Him? He can go around the world so many times it will make your head spin.” His passion for the game is evident, and I would love to add the following comment after whatever someone says about his skills: “and check out his boots - fresh!”

  82. Justin says

Having grown up in the Southwest, spending some time in Phoenix and also in El Paso. I can honestly relate to Adam, post #9. For all intensive purposely I can relate to him about people who just talk, and can’t play, and judge people based on potential ethnicity. Its a bunch of crap. I think Adamn should win the cleats to show its about heart in the game and how you play, not how you talk.
