So apparently the USL has been put up for sale by Nike and it appears that MLS is one of the parties interested in purchasing it. It also sounds like MLS is put off by the types of numbers that Nike is looking to get on a deal, and that there is a group of private investors who are in the lead to buy the league. But this begs the question, if MLS is able to acquire the USL, would this be the first step towards a true promotion / relegation style format? To be honest, I’m not sure that would ever happen, but situations like these allow for that possibility…
