The Portland Timbers get the USA Today treatment as the club and fans prepare to enter MLS in two years.
…Could not resist re-posting this absolutely fantastic video. (Best MLS/USL Supporter Display Ever?)
“In Portland, Ore., soccer fans aren’t sitting around quietly waiting for MLS to arrive in 2011.
The Portland Timbers will be playing two more years in the United Soccer Leagues First Division before moving up to MLS, are unbeaten in 23 league games since losing their season opener.
The Timbers are 14-1-9 and have clinched a playoff berth. They lead the league by six points with six games to play, four of them at home in raucous PGE Park, where they drew 13,845 for a 3-1 win vs. Miami on Saturday.
“We have a tremendous group of supporters that are extremely vocal, outspoken, enthusiastic, full of energy and make this feel like a true home advantage,” coach Gavin Wilkinson says.”
