A few of us had a conversation about Kanye West last night and were wondering about his potential and where he will end up on the list of hip hop heavyweights.

There was a time when I worked in the music industry, and one of my boys was this close to signing Kanye to a deal with Capitol (50 Cent too, but that story is for a different day). We’d sit in his office and he would play me some tracks with Kanye rhyming on them. Kanye was already making a serious name for himself at this point with his beats, but he wanted to get on as an MC. Roc-A-Fella wasn’t offering up much, and 3H was going in hard to sign him to Capitol. Things fell apart in the end for 3H when Roc-A-Fella stepped in, and since then Kanye has blown the eff up.

I remember when the accident happened that seriously injured Kanye, and not long after that, he drops this song…jaw still wired shut.

He’s definitely on some whole other ish since these days, but this song still bangs.
