As if adding Carlos Tevez and spending over 121 Million Pound on additions over the summer wasn’t enough to stoke the flames ahead of this years Manchester Derby, Manchester City have gone ahead and added former Manchester United Assistant Coach Brian Kidd to their coaching staff.

Brian Kidd has returned to Manchester City as technical development manager at the club’s academy. His brief will be to coach players coming through City’s youth system and head up staff training.

Kidd, who played for City between 1976 and 1979, and later spent seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United, spent last season at Portsmouth, where he and manager Paul Hart kept the club in the Premier League following the departure of Tony Adams.

“Brian has vast experience at both club and international level,” City’s football administration officer, Brian Marwood, said: “He will help maintain the excellent development programme we have in place at the academy.

“He was much in demand when it became clear he wasn’t going to stay at Portsmouth and we are delighted that Brian has chosen to come and work with us.”
