It’s always interesting to see the reaction of the home fans once a former player hits the field for the first time upon their return.  And judging by the reaction that Carlos Tevez received at Old Trafford this past weekend, feelings were definitely hurt on both sides.

The question that hasn’t been asked yet is if the fans would have be more gracious had he not signed for a club that’s spent the money to now rival his former club Manchester United.

“I must admit I did believe I would get a different reception from the United supporters. Initially everything was positive and I was greeted by my former team-mates and United staff without any problems at all.

“But as soon as I entered the field the atmosphere was very different.  It was hard to take because previously I was always wanted by those people. But I suppose in football situations change.

“Nobody could doubt that gave my maximum to United during my two years there but I don’t think the fans really understand. I don’t think the club have ever really explained why I left.

“I insist that the club didn’t treat me correctly and they only tried to keep me at the last minute. I don’t think I deserve that.”

Tevez played for two years at United on a loan deal that could have been made permanent for a fee of about £25million.

Once a period of exclusivity passed to complete the deal in January, City, Chelsea, Liverpool and some of the biggest clubs on the Continent showed interest in the former West Ham star, who eventually chose City.
