Classic Prince Guitaring - George Harrison Rock & Roll HOF Tribute
Filed under: Legends, Music
Goodness gracious you sometimes forget how good a guitar player this dude is. His stage presence is unbelievable, you don’t even see the little guy in his red hat until about halfway through and then he proceeds to take over. Notice the clip, among the players there is one of the greatest producers/writers/musicians/guitarist of all time in Jeff Lynne, some kid, and oh by the way a guy by the name of Tom Petty. They saw that he was in the zone, he got his solo time to shine, and with all due respect, Prince D-E-S-T-R-O-Y-S them. Love the way he ends his set too, throw the guitar in the air with the ‘whoever wants it’ attitude and then walking off stage right, opposite where everyone else goes. I’ve watched this clip like 10x today.
Dudes make you want to pick up your guitar and play until your fingers bleed but at the same time think, why even bother because there is no chance that you will make it sound like THAT. This is why he can charge whatever he wants for tickets.

Simmons!
The kid is George Harrison’s son.
“Some kid” is Dhani Harrison, George’s son (and musician in his own right - his band is thenewno2). I remember thinking at the time that, amazing as Prince was, it was a strange tribute to a guy who was usually pretty damned understated on stage. Watching again now, it’s even more awesome, but still a little odd…
Is “the kid on guitar” George’s son Dhani, inventor of Beatle Rock Band?
Damn that was filthy! That was a definite face melter!!
mnemesis, good call. I totally heard it on Simmons and immediately googled it. But I like a lot of people are totally into Prince, 0(+>, Prince Rogers Nelson, et al. He’s my guy!!
