Soccer in America – A Photographic Journey

“Senior Night”

This was my first varsity soccer team that I ever coached. I was young and a lot of people questioned my hiring, what I was doing, etc. When I took over the team they were in shambles. There were small cliques and they all hated each other. There was definitely talent there. My biggest job was to bring them all together. It took half of the season to sort everything out, but by the end of the season everyone cared about each other, even those that didn’t play much. This picture was taken on Senior Night and I think it shows a team that genuinely cares about each other. We were able to win the schools first district championship in AA soccer. That season made me believe that my beliefs and ideas in coaching worked and that true soccer could actually be played on the high school level. I care deeply about every single one of those players and we are still close to this day.
