USA v Honduras - Updated Viewing List

blackout

The lack of broadcasting the USA v Honduras match is really annoying and frustrating. The closer the game gets, the more my level of frustration is growing. I want to blame somebody for this, but I’m not entirely sure where the blame needs to be aimed.  Instead, we are limited to a handful of bars around the country that have made an effort to get the game. Here is a list of bars that will be showing the match. I’m thinking about making the drive down to San Diego to catch this one.

If you make it out to any of these bars for the game, make sure you thank them for showing the game!

Granted I know nothing about the innerworkings of soccer broadcasting, it seems to me that the blame lies with ESPN, FSC, etc. for allowing themselves to be outbid. I understand not wanting to overpay the Honduran federation for the rights, but I seriously doubt this CopaTV organization had more money to spend than the networks. Continued growth requires continued exposure, and this is an enormous step backwards in that regard. USA-Mexico on mun2 was a similar situation, and from a broadcasting perspective I thought it was a disaster. Not only did we have to listen to Marcelo Balboa (kill me), the network actually misspelled Charlie Davies’ last name (He was ‘Charlie Davis’ on their starting lineup graphic). A minor error, sure, but still unforgivable.

    O’Brien’s pub in San Diego:

“The pay per view is hefty, but we will not be charging a cover for USA fans – though it would be much appreciated if you could help us out by enjoying multiple beers during the game and perhaps some food…If we clinch qualification or win the game against Honduras, expect the USA yard glass to be passed around and filled liberally.”

Cock n’ Bull in Santa Monica, not on the list but the bar is telling people they will carry it - $15 cover. As for fault, the rights are controlled by the Honduran football association and were offered by the current provider to ESPN and others, but according to them the price was too high. Lets hope the distributor eats it on the deal and we never see it again.

Cock n’ Bull, really? I was planning on taking a trip down to my beloved hometown of Whales Vagina but the $15 cover is cheaper than gas.
