Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that England midfielder David Beckham will join the club in January. On Wednesday night, Beckham had claimed his move back to Milan was “95 per cent done”, and now Galliani has echoed that statement with one of his own. The chief is delighted to bring the midfielder back for a second stint as he puffs his chest out with pride.

“David Beckham’s return on loan in January is already a done deal,” Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.

The chief also hit out at the US Soccer Association, claiming they will have to pay Oguchi Onyewu’s wages after he suffered a serious knee injury against Costa Rica.

The stopper is expected to be out for at least four months, and Galliani wants compensation.

“It’s a shame that we give players to National teams and they get back injured and we have to pay for this. Now we are evaluating the chance to ask USA Federation for an economic compensation corresponding to the wage the player will have during the months of the injury”

Such a joke. You’re one of the biggest clubs in the world! As if the state of your club’s performance wasn’t bad enough, now you’re quibbling over a million and a half Euro a year? You present yourself as a super club, but you’re acting pretty damn bush league.

I can understand being upset when players come back from meaningless friendlies injured, but this was a WCQ. Galliani is making out like he bent over backwards to release Gooch to the US for WCQ’s.

this dude is trippin. perfect photo for the story!

  4. Bonji says

Does Galliani ask the Italian federation for compensation when an Italian is injured on national team duty? I doubt it.

  5. steveone says

My friend just told me that US will have to pay because he says “italy paid roma for totti when he got injured, and the same with ronnaldinho”

    is this true?

Actually Galliani isn’t being ridiculous and is not the only “big” team president to have complained about it. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and some EPL clubs have done it in the past and I personally think that they should be compensated regardless if it’s a big club or not. Is like letting someone borrow your stuff and they give it back broken.

he is just pissed cause ac is in the gutter, frankly us should sue him for damages the lack of play on oguchi is a potential reason he tore a tendon and was not possibly physically fit enough to handle a spill

You know I’ve gotta say. Though I think it’s bush league to make so much public noise about this, I think the USSF should pay out. It’s only 6 months and I don’t want the first US player’s experience at a Super Club to be soured over something like this. I don’t want Gooch to feel uncomfortable and I don’t want AC Milan scaring other big clubs away from signing Americans.

They only signed him to make money from the states. None of you guys can think his skill level is up to par with Milan. He should be a sub on their reserves. He would be a decent MLS defender playing at a top club in the world. Atleast Milan dont have to worry about him being on the pitch for the next 5 months…

Annnnnd Joe is a know-nothing asshat.

If Gooch was playing, I could see him being upset, but Milan was already paying Gooch to sit on the bench. Now, they are paying Gooch to sit on the bench. He’s just looking for free publicity.

You pay the fella’s wages while he is injured, pay for his treatment but national teams don’t have to do a thing…………. Newcastle got a pay out from England when he got hurt at the world cup, Milan should likewise get a pay out.

  13. Guv'na says

Owen* Self edit, what a dip shit!

  14. Chad says

Do Nat’l teams get compensation from clubs when a national team player gets hurt during club play?

  15. Guv'na says

Why would they Chad? Are they under contract for the National team? Wakey wakey

What is an asshat anyway? Is it like an album cover?

My two (strike that) three cents

International clubs should have to pay the wages of players injured during internationals regardless of the PT they get at the club, now he won’t even be an option for the next few months. However, on 15 January 2008 FIFA and UEFA agreed that they would pay compensation for international injuries and selection after a World Cup or European Championship. So don’t worry, someone other than AC will pay “Gooch’s” wages for the next few months.

In return for this agreement the G-14 (football’s equivelent of the G8 though for some reason Fulham were not part of it) agreed to disband.

Can someone please tell me what a Gooch is in the USA? In the UK it is that grey area between your * and your balls.

on a side note…if he wanted PT then he should have come to fulham

I think US Soccer should pay at least part of his wages while injured. They don’t pay any players’ salary, but they get to make all sorts of cash when the Americans play in front of the home fans. I’m a season ticket holder for RSL and my deeply discounted, cheapest tickets in the stadium to the El Salvador game were $38 bucks…almost triple a normal MLS game. After the fees that are added on, the ticket ends up costing like $45 or $46 bucks, which is more than triple the normal cost. Where does all that money go? The least they can do is take responsibility for players hurt while on US Soccer time.
