CSKA Moscow have sacked Juande Ramos as coach after less than seven weeks at the Russian club. The Spaniard replaced Zico on 10 September but has won only four of his nine games in charge, leaving CSKA in fifth place in the Russian Premier Liga and in serious danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.

It was Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat to FC Moscow which ultimately spelled the end of Ramos’s stay in Russia. They now lie 10 points behind leaders Rubin Kazan. He will be replaced by the former FC Moscow and Krylia Sovetov coach Leonid Slutsky.

“Following an agreement between all parties, CSKA have cancelled their contract with head coach Juande Ramos,” a club statement confirmed. “We are very grateful to Juande Ramos for the work he has done with the team. In turn the Spanish coach thanked the club’s leadership and players for their co-operation and wished the football club every success.”
