Our friend Nick Aldridge brought something special to our attention a couple of weeks back, London’s Homeless Football League.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget how fortunate we are every single day, kind of like the theory that you never realize how good you feel until you’re injured.

Street League is a five-a-side football league with a difference. Based in London, UK, the teams are made up of the homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics, the unemployed, people with learning difficulties and those suffering with mental health issues.
Each team gets a free weekly training session in London, given by professional coaches connected with teams such as QPR and more importantly, a league to play each other in, with the cup final days held in the David Beckham academy.
It’s a registered charity and it boasts Brazilian international Gilberto Silva, Scottish international Andy McLaren, Hope Powell (the manager the English women’s team) and Robbie Earle, formerly of Jamaica and Wimbledon (and now a commentator for ITV here in the UK) as ambassadors.
If you ever needed proof that football builds bridges, this is it. Teams are made up of players that don’t even speak the same language. The charity helps them get fit, build up their self esteem and start to turn their lives around.
