Dick Advocaat’s hard line stance over abiding to team rules continues after dismissing Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany over being late for the second time.

Kompany was initially dropped to the bench by the coach Dick Advocaat for the match against Hungary on Saturday after arriving five minutes late for a team meeting, and was then sent home when he failed to meet a deadline for arriving back with the squad, having attended his grandmother’s funeral in Brussels.

Kompany protested his innocence over the first offence, saying: “The players always used to get a wake-up call from the hotel reception desk, but that has apparently changed under the new manager.

“I didn’t know that, and no one told me. I can understand the manager not being happy, though.”
