Bono (in London to announce the Nike + Red global partnership) lent his support to the Republic of Ireland football team who were knocked out of the World Cup qualifiers by France following the Thierry Henry handball scandal.

Asked whether the team should be reinstated in the tournament, Bono said: “Yes, I think so. Absolutely.”

    what a joke. is that really how the irish want to get into the WC? Through whining and complaining cuz a ball of the bounce didn’t go their way?

    no, they lost…greater injustices have occurred, time to stop whining and score more goals in qualifying to win more games, please stop

    They lost because of poor officiating. I don’t see what people are pissed at Ireland about. There has been countless calls for some added officiating around the goals. FIFA drags their feet and now something like this happens. If I was Ireland, there’s no way I go silently into that good night. Hey, they won’t make WC, but at least they can spur changes to occur in goal area officiating.
