Nike x Red – Nike Town London

As I previously mentioned, I spent the early part of this week in London for Nike’s announcement that they are partnering with Red to help bring education and medicine to the HIV/ AIDS crisis in Africa.  It was a pretty eye opening experience to hear about what is taking place with the crisis in Africa and how a little bit of help from all of us can go a long ways.

The numbers behind the crisis are pretty staggering and it was clear why people like Bono and some of the world’s top players chose to get involved. The upcoming World Cup in South Africa presents a great platform to educate people about this crisis. Hearing Bono speak about his goals with Red, and Didier Drogba speak about his love for Africa and his desire to make a difference was very compelling. It doesn’t take a lot to make a difference, and it was clear that all of the people at Nike Town on Monday were committed to the cause.

It’s estimated that over 5,000 people contract HIV in Africa everyday, 1,000 of them being children. For $0.40 cents a day, an infected person can receive the medicine that they need to live a normal life and have hope for a future. In the years since Red has began, they have been the largest private contributor to the Global Fund with over $150 million donated.

The Global Fund and the Red Campaign have been committed to this, and now Nike has joined in to help with the cause.  For more information visit JoinRed and Nike.
