South Korean midfielder Ki Sung Yueng was officially unveiled as a Celtic player at a special event in Seoul on Monday morning. Chief Executive Peter Lawwell jetted in to South Korea to welcome the current Young Asian Player of the Year to the club at the glamour signing ceremony, held in conjunction with Celtic and kit sponsors Nike.

Ki is a South Korean internationalist and is regarded as one of the most talented players in Asia.

Formerly of FC Seoul, he has signed a contract for up to four years with Celtic and will be available from January 1. He speaks perfect English after living in Australia as a teenager.

“I am really happy everything has been completed now. As soon as I signed a contract with Celtic I started to learn more and more about the club,” said Ki, who will wear the No.18 Hoops shirt.

“When I lived in Australia I watched a lot of Champions League games and at that time Henrik Larsson was still playing for Celtic. “I was a fan of his, but I am already trying to learn more about the club. I also used to watch Shunsuke Nakamura when I was young, especially when he played for Celtic and he did a great job for the club.

“This club is one of the biggest and best clubs in the world and I know that playing for Celtic will make me a better player.”
