Harry Redknapp has fined his Tottenham party animals but Robbie Keane will not be stripped of the captaincy over the secret trip he organised to Dublin.

Manager Redknapp called his players together before training at Spurs Lodge in an effort to draw a line under the episode and ordered the players to make a donation – thought to be around £20,000 each – to the Tottenham Foundation charity, which helps children in the local community.

The 16 players who hit the Irish capital for a drinking session stressed they had not broken any club rules by going out on a Tuesday ahead of a Saturday game, which Spurs just happened to lose 1-0 at home to struggling Wolves.

Redknapp was angry as he felt he had been misled by Keane (right), who had originally asked for the squad to be given time off for a golf day in Ireland.

The manager said last week he was ‘shocked’ and ‘disappointed’ by their antics, and also embarrassed because the story leaked just days after he had insisted publicly that his players would not be having a Christmas party.

‘It is widely known I do not approve of Christmas parties and I’ve always made it clear players should only drink in moderation,’ said Redknapp after finding out about the Dublin trip. ‘Wednesday was their day off and Robbie told me they were going to Dublin to play golf. I had no problem with that.’

The 16 players were reported to have already paid £2,000 each for their night out and centre back Jonathan Woodgate was among those who spent thousands of pounds more to hire a private plane to cross the Irish Sea.

It is not the first time Tottenham’s players have been caught partying this season. Striker Peter Crouch and Woodgate were among those photographed drinking in a London nightclub as they celebrated a win against Portsmouth in the Barclays Premier League.
