German International and Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder is being extremely realistic over his chances to represent Germany during the 2010 World Cup and his expectations of what Real Madrid will do when his contract runs out this summer.

“All us players are optimistic but I am also realistic and I don’t think the club will renew (my contract),” Metzelder, who joined Real from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2007, told a news conference on Tuesday.
“About the World Cup, I don’t often speak to the coach (Joachim Loew) and so I don’t think he is really counting on me,” added the 29-year-old, who last played for Germany in the final of Euro 2008.
Metzelder said he was unlikely to leave Real in the January transfer window because German clubs would be reluctant to pay a fee for a player who was set to become a free agent five months later.
