A highly influential Football Association insider has informed ESPNsoccernet that John Terry will not be persecuted within the England camp after the torrid revelations regarding his private life. Terry is now at the centre of a storm of controversy surrounding his personal life after it was alleged he had an affair with the ex-girlfriend of international and former club team-mate Wayne Bridge.
There has been reported disquiet about the England captain constantly hitting the headlines for a series of off-field indiscretions, with suggestions that the FA hierarchy are split, and that the players have lost respect for their captain.
But contrary to this, those inside the England camp believe the revelations will not impact on his ability to lead the country or indeed participate in the squad for the World Cup finals.
Talking to ESPNsoccernet, the influential figure within the FA hierarchy, who is in regular contact with Fabio Capello, made it clear that Terry’s England captaincy is not in jeopardy. “All this happened over a year ago,” the insider told Soccernet. “Everybody knows about it and it’s all done and dusted some time ago. It’s been well known, but all the lads have kept it quiet and got on with their lives. The personal lives of the players, are their personal lives.
