Gotta give it to our boys over at Complex as they have put together a pretty desirable Designated Player list for any Major League Soccer General Manager, the 15 Soccer Players Who Should Join The MLS.
And under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the players and MLS, each team is allowed two Designated Player slots per season at a $335,000 Salary Cap hit (and also a 3rd if the team pays a $250K “Luxury Tax” that would be paid to MLS and distributed among the teams that don’t have a 3rd DP) with the individual teams responsible for the rest of the agreed contract.
If a Designated Player is signed up after the World Cup, his Salary Cap hit for the rest of the season would only be half of the $335,000.
Be interesting to see which teams start making adjustments or major moves in the upcoming weeks.
