Nick Rimando – Real Salt Lake
My fondest memory of MLS Cup would have to be my most recent visit, 2009 MLS Cup in Seattle. The minute we got off the plane it felt like a Championship game was in the air. The whole city knew about the game, there was this electric vibe walking through downtown, and it just felt like a professional MLS Cup game should feel like. We chartered there, our owner took care of our families, and everything was first class so all we had to think about was the game.
We had no business being there, well from the eyes of people outside our locker room, so the under dog role seemed perfect for a team like us. Playing the LA Galaxy in the final, odds were against us but we knew if we battled and played for each other we had a chance. We took them to PK’s after a late tying goal by Robbie Findley and that’s when the pressure was on and what pro athletes live for. Only 50K fans looking at 2 players wondering who was going to be the hero…well luck was on my side that day and lifting the cup in 2009 became one of my favorite memories in soccer.
