“Rotten Decay” – BADBADNOTGOOD from BBNG2
BadBadNotGood aka BADBADNOTGOOD and / or BBNG is a post-bop, instrumental hip hop jazz trio from Toronto, Canada. The group is made up of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alexander Sowinski on drums. They are known for their interpolations of hip hop tracks and their collaborations with Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean.
The three artists met in 2010 through the Humber College jazz program in Toronto. They love hip – hop and they are meeeeean on their respective instruments. Its been a record that I have been listening to for a while after hearing their version of Flashing Lights a few months ago. The single is definitely different than Kanye’s, so much that I dont know that they are even doing a take on it, but I started following the BBNG facebook page and their twitter feed and these cats are guys to keep an eye on. The sound is interesting, and interesting in a really good way.
But, then again, they are from Canada and is there anything out of Canadia that I dont like? Let me check … Poutine, yes. Canadian show runners with tv shows in America, yes. Canadian Club Whiskey, yes. Emmanuelle Chriqui, yes, yes, and yes! Kristin Kruek, yes. Drizzy Drake, yes. Elisha Cuthbert, yes!
I think you should check these fellas out – You can listen to their album BBNG 2 on youtube, or you can go to the BADBADNOTGOOD website and download the album FOR FREE! Its Free.99. It will cost you Zero dollars. Zilch. Nothing… you get a whole album for free, and you don’t have to steal it… Gotta love that right.
* Side note *
In the liner notes for the album there is this:
“No one above the age of 21 was involved in the making of this album. This album was recorded in one 10 hour session. Thanks to our friends, family, loved ones, and anyone who fucks with us.”
* Yeah, these guys are right where they need to be.
