Below, he goes into his once again choosing number two as his squad number now that he has joined Tottenham. And if you read all the way to the bottom, you will see a special opportunity for US fans only to grab a Dempsey jersey.
Clint Dempsey has revealed why he opted for number two on his shirt when he joined Spurs – and US-based fans can take advantage of a special offer to own a ‘Dempsey 2’ shirt in the famous home colours of Tottenham Hotspur to celebrate Thanksgiving!
The attacking midfielder/striker joined the north London club from Fulham on transfer deadline day, August 31, and had little hesitation in grasping the number two shirt for the latest chapter of his footballing career at White Hart Lane.
The tale of number two goes back to Clint’s college days back in Dallas and with his first MLS club, New England Revolution.
“It was a number I used when I was in college and then when I turned professional in the MLS,” said Clint, one of five nominees for the U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year award.
“When I was in the MLS, my mum pulled out an old jersey and got it framed for me and that was the number – number two.
“It’s a number that has significance to me and for me, it’s a ‘man makes the number, number doesn’t make the man’ type of thing. It’s something I identify with, I’m happy to be wearing it and I’m delighted people are picking it up.”
