Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ music is distinct for channeling cultural moments and refreshingly self-aware testimony through candid lyricism and expertly crafted composition. The two met and began working together by way of Myspace and after making a lot of noise in the Pacific Northwest being based out of Seattle, they came to national attention after writing a song in support of Gay Marriage called Same Love.

I think one of the things that people miss when they hear about Macklemore is that there is so much more to him and Ryan Lewis than just that one song. He has a serious movement and has been selling out shows long before hitting that national stage with a political record. They have released several eps, having one chart as high as #7 on the iTunes Hip Hop Charts!

This song and video is off of The Heist which is now available on iTunes. If you have never heard of this cat, you need to listen up because he is waaaaaay better than a lot of rappers out there you have heard of, and in his first week he sold 70k+ records …. for all who don’t pay attention to those sorts of things, to move that many units in todays musical climate means that he is kind of a big deal.
