Chris Coleman is expected to be confirmed as the new manager of Wales on Thursday after the country’s Football Association called a press conference to name the successor to Gary Speed.

The former Wales international has expressed strong interest in taking over from Speed, who died in November, and had been due to hold formal talks about the post this week.

John Hartson, Ryan Giggs, Ian Rush and Speed’s assistant Raymond Verheijen have also all been linked with the role, although Coleman is the firm favourite.

The press conference at St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay has been scheduled for midday.
