Steven Gerrard picked up the England Men’s Senior Player of the Year at St. George’s Park before revealing a big charity donation from the whole squad. The England captain collected the award after beating off Danny Welbeck, Ashley Cole, Joe Hart and Glen Johnson in the vote, which was made by over 180,000 fans on TheFA.com
And Gerrard brought the national football centre’s Ball Room to its feet by announcing that The FA’s Community Shield donation to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK would be matched by the Three Lions squad.
He explained: “I think the Bobby Moore Fund is something that the players have really supported over the last number of years.
“It’s a fantastic cause and we’ve matched the donation made by The FA, so the players are going to put £25,000 towards it.”
