fifa interpol match fixing conference

Officials in the world of football have said all countries and organizations must do more to tackle corruption. Today at a two-day conference in Kuala Lumpur organized by Interpol and Fifa, with 200+ representatives from 43 countries in attendance, FIFA security director made it clear that they (FIFA) can’t combat organized crime. But, his goal is to protect the game:

“I’m from FIFA, I have to protect football. I’m going to protect football. That’s our goal. But you will not stamp out organised crime and to deter organised crime by the disciplinary code of FIFA, I mean, come on , this is not serious. I think what’s really sad is we are banning referees, players for life from being involved in football. And the criminals, you have one of them named, are out there for free, they get no sanctions, and I think that’s wrong.” – Ralf Mutschke, Director of Security

Interpol director Dale Sheehan also added that its false to say match-fixing is a victimless crime and that it is in fact, a global problem.
