passback

I’m sure that like myself, many of you have some pre-worn boots, shin pads, replica jerseys etc that you are no longer using. And while those items may just be taking up space in your closet or in your garage, for some folks, these items could be put to really good use. The US Soccer Foundation has a program called which is designed to do some good in the world. From their website:

Soccer is a unifying force that brings people together for the love of a common passion. We believe in the uniting power of soccer and want to assist those who love the game but are unable to play. Through our Passback program, we encourage organizations and individuals to collect new and gently used soccer equipment for redistribution to children in need. To date, we have collected and redistributed close to 900,000 pieces of soccer equipment to organizations across the world.

It takes one ball to change the life of a child.

It takes one jersey to make a child feel a sense of belonging.

To help with this cause, the LA Galaxy supporters group knows as LA Riot Squad (LARS) will be collecting items at each of their functions they are putting on this weekend in support of the first game of the new MLS season. If you are in the LA area, stop by one of these events/locations. Bring some of your used soccer gear. Gather up some from your teammates, your kids teammates, your friends. Get involved. Do some good. And give your used gear to some people who will make the most of it. Here is the info on where LARS will be holding their events and collecting items for the Passback program.

3/1 6pm-9pm Friday night Season Opener Party at Trader Vic’s at LA Live.
3/2 2pm-4:30pm LARS vs Section 8 supporters match at Field 7 of the Home Depot Center.
