The 2013 Confederations Cup is kicking off this Saturday and will feature some of the best national teams from around the world. With the kickoff so close, PUMA has just launched the kit that Uruguay will be wearing in this summers tournament.
The design pays tribute to the legendary Uruguayan team that triumphed at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, beating Switzerland in the final to win Gold. In this pre-World Cup era, and Olympic Gold medal was the most cherished prize in world football.
Inspired by the look of the 1924 shirt, the new Uruguayan Confederations cup shirt features a striking optical lacing on the neck that offers a unique style. Whilst maintaining the classic feel, the shirt features an enhanced mositure management through materials that provide a superior level of comfort and performance. The new kit was designed in the classic colours of the Uruguayan flag – light blue and white; additional details are both the embroidered AUF crest and PUMA branding on the left side of the chest as well as on the cuffs.
The replica version of the new shirt is made from 100% recycled polyester, which is a new achievement and represents a further step in the Sportlifestyle brand’s sustainability strategy.
I happened to get one of these sent out and I can tell you it’s a rad jersey. Visually it’s a good looking jersey and the material is really interesting. It’s very soft and and feels different than what we have come to expect a jersey to feel like. This is definitely a jersey that wears well off the pitch. And – I love the look of the lacing on the neck. I was a big fan of the look of the jerseys back in the day that had this, and this is a clever way to give the jersey that vintage look while keeping it modern.
