Marc Muniesa, the Spanish Under-21 international became the Potters’ second new signing of the summer yesterday when he put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract after being released by Barcelona.

The highly-versatile 21-year-old defender was reported to be attracting attention in his home country from La Liga clubs who had been tracking his progress.

However, Stoke moved quickly to secure his services after being alerted to his availability and Muniesa is eagerly looking to trying to make his mark in the Premier League.

“I never imagined I would get the chance to play in the Premier League, but when Stoke called me I decided to come here with my family to speak to them,” he exclusively told www.stokecityfc.com.

“All the people I’ve spoken have shown a lot of confidence in me and I’m really happy that everything has been sorted.”

“I’m very happy to be here and to sign for this club. I’m very excited about playing in the Premier League with Stoke City.”

Muniesa made his way up through the youth ranks at Barcelona before, at the age of 17 years and 57 days, becoming the second youngest player to make their first team debut for the Catalan club.

He has been a regular in the Barcelona B side who play in the second tier of their domestic league and was a member of the Spain squad that recently won the European Under-21 Championship but admits he’s looking forward to a new challenge.

He added: “I’ve always played with Barcelona but I want to try something different and with the support of my family and the people at Stoke and the fans, this will be a good experience for me.

“My favourite position is central defender. I can also play at left back or in midfield but I feel better when I play centre-back.

“I hope to learn English and do my best for the team and the fans. I want to make them happy.”
