This past weekend was Steve Nash’s Showdown which took place in Los Angeles for the first time. As per every other Showdown, there was a mix of professional soccer players, former pros and NBA stars. Some of the folks included Steve Nash (obvs), Carlos Bocanegra, Carlo Cudicini, Jeremy Lin, Robbie Rogers, John O’Brien, Kyle Martino, Brian McBride and our very own Brian Dunseth aka dunny.
The game took place in an area just west of Staples Center in little pocket of a neighborhood that happened to have a mini field built in. Cool spot to hold this event and I imagine there are some legit games being played here on the reg. The whole thing had a little bit of a block party feel as the street was shut down, there were some folks out with food and drinks and the vibe was very cool. Plenty of media made it out as did a nice crowd of supporters.
Steve Nash has been doing the showdown for a number of years now and it is an incredible way to raise money for his foundation. The support of the players he gets to come out and play says a lot about Steve, his foundation and the players who donate their time and effort. Personally I’m hoping that the Showdown will now take place every year in LA, not just in NYC. Check out the Steve Nash Foundation website for more info.
After the game there was a private event and auction. Steve was able to curate a wide range of items that were auctioned off to raise money for his Steve Nash Foundation. We got in on the action for this Kappa soccer ball that was signed by every person that played in the game. The bidding started off fairly modestly but we ended up getting in a bidding war with one other guy. Long story short, we ended up getting a signed ball while helping the Steve Nash Foundation out. Everyone wins. And here is where one of you will really win…
We are giving this ball away. It’s a great memento from a fantastic event featuring some great human beings, and we want one of you to be the proud owner of it. So here is what you need to do:
Hit the jump to enter for a chance to win this signed “Showdown” ball.
Leave a comment on this post identifying as many autographs as you can. Let us know which autograph corresponds to which photo (1 – photo at top pf this post, 2, 3 or 4 – photos below). There is one caveat though. To be eligible to win, you have to correctly identify dunny’s signature. The more you can identify the better, but the “dunny” autograph is mandatory.
Special shout to Steve Nash for putting this together. He is doing some great things through his foundation and being able to get involved and win this auctioned off ball is pretty cool. Shouts to everyone who participated in this great cause as well.
Now get to it!
