We post things on this site about the history of the game from time to time. Be that a Throwback Thursday or a Flashback Friday, we like to take a look back at some big things that have happened over the years that have helped shape the game. And today, will eventually be one of those days that gets looked at as a game changing day.
Today, the English FA have announced that goal line technology will be rolled out this season in the English game. This has been a long time coming and has been an ongoing conversation about the pros and cons. And with the FA rolling out goal line technology amongst their leagues and cups it is a strong signal to the rest of the soccer world that goal line technology needs to be a part of the sport.
I know there are some people who believe that this will be bad for the game. That it will be disruptive. That it takes away from the natural flow. And they are certainly entitled to their opinions. But I think we will see some good out of this. It will be interesting to see what the reaction is when this technology over rules a call made on the field. Will fans embrace it more after seeing that it makes the game that much more fair? Regardless of where you sit on goal line technology, I think we can all agree that it will be interesting to see how it plays out in it’s first season in use.
