Manchester City continues to create some of the best content from a professional sports team. This time it’s a GoPro video from when they came to the US back in late May to play a couple friendlies after their season ended. And they didn’t just make any old GoPro video. Oh no. They had cameras on all kinds of players, staff. Different angles and view points. Training sessions. Pre-game in the tunnel and the walk out. The perspectives that you get with this are amazing.
As I was watching this and thinking to myself how great this was from just an entertainment aspect, it got me wondering if videos like this can be much more than just entertainment and great digital content. Can videos like this, with technology like what GoPro offers, be used as training tools for players going forward. Can having a camera on players like Carlos Tevez and seeing the decisions he makes in situations help young players develop better? What better way to understand the decisions that top players make than by seeing things from their own perspectives. It might not be fully there yet, but I have to believe that technology like this is part of the future of training future generations of soccer players.
In the meantime, sit back and enjoy.
