About the Film :: A kaleidoscope of color and culture clash humorously as an Indian family in London tries to raise their soccer-playing daughter in a traditional way. Unlike tarty elder sister Pinky, who is preparing for an Indian wedding and a lifetime of cooking the perfect chapatti, Jess’ dream is to play soccer professionally like her hero David Beckham. [Fox Searchlight]
BILB was a sleepy little film, released in the United States almost exactly 10 years ago, on August 1st, 2003. The films cost a little more than $6 million to make, ended up grossing over $76m worldwide, scored very highly on Rotten Tomatoes (85% fresh), and introduced most of us to Keira Knightly for the first time…
Back in 2002 when this movie came out David Beckham was well into his career at Manchester United, but I dont think he was huggge on a global scale to a non-football audience, but this movie just made him larger than life. Interestingly enough, Becks never made a physical appearance in the movie except for some archives stuff.
It is noted that Becks and Mrs. Beckham wanted to make cameo appearances, but scheduling proved difficult, so the director used lookalike Andy Harmer instead.
The daughter of orthodox Sikh rebels against her parents’ traditionalism by running off to Germany with a football team.
