Coach Jake’s MLK High School in Manhattan is arguably the most famous and successful high school soccer programs in the United States.
I think one of the most interesting things about the school’s storied success is probably how much of it is because of the diversity of the school’s population. I was reading up on the school, because I didn’t know much about it to be honest, and one of the schools former players thinks that its just that which makes them so successful, “Here, we have guys from different backgrounds — Spanish, African, Haitians, Caribbeans — it’s pretty easy to interact,” said MLK senior Jethro Dede, who hails from the Ivory Coast. “It’s fun to play with other people rather than just one group.”
I was searching the internets for some video, because I thought to myself that there is no way that there isnt a ton of tape on these cats, and honestly, I didn’t find a ton. But then I found this series put together years ago by the Daily News. Its awesome so I threw it together in a playlist above. Take some time to check it out, its really interesting.
Do your googles, check out a ton of stuff on this school and this coach on the internets. Its good to know about.
