The tiny island of Iceland has come into the Euro’s and defied all odds by not only advancing to the second round, but by advancing in second place ahead of Portugal and officially knocking Austria out of the tournament. From the way that they handled Ronaldo throwing shade their way after the first game to the way they have played and the manner in which their fans have supported has been incredible. There is a lot of passion and heart being demonstrated from Iceland.
But this clip of the Icelandic announcer who was calling the game is extraordinary. The dude is literally summoning all his emotion and passion as Iceland catches Austria on the counter late into added time. As Iceland are heading towards the Austrian goal the announcer can barely contain himself. And when they core, oh man. What a moment!
I remember when Ian Darke called Landon’s goal against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup. This is no doubt the Icelandic version of that. Ben Gummi (that’s the announcers name) called this amazingly well. Hats off to you, sir!
Congrats to Iceland!
