Carmelo Anthony Visits MLK Soccer Team

The perennially nationally ranked Martin Luther King High School’s boys soccer team is comprised of immigrant kids from around the world. Coach Martin Jacobson (Coach Jake) believes in “learning life’s lessons and helping others. That’s two reasons why we’re on earth.” In this episode, Carmelo visits with Coach Jake and some of the kids to learn about their life stories, and how sport can save people’s lives. – VICE

About a year ago, we posted a video series done by NY Daily News covering this program and Coach Jake, and were surprised to find out that there isn’t a ton of information out there about this club.

It’s arguably the most successful high school soccer team in the country and its unique because of the diverse makeup of the student body and players on the team.

Coach Jake, a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn, is the “winningest” soccer coach in the history of the New York City Public School Athletic League having won 15 New York City Public High School championships over the last 19 years and being consistently ranked as one of the top 20 high school soccer teams in the United States by ESPN and NSCAA.

It’s an amazing story and one that I’m happy that soccer fanatic and NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony decided to tell. Well done. Stay Melo.
