Manchester City v Chelsea Highlights – Friendly in St. Louis

In the first of their two friendlies played in the United States, Chelsea and Manchester City did not disappoint. It was Chelsea who got off to a very strong start which saw the Europa League winners go 3-0 up. But City was not to be denied. They came storming back and overcame this three goal deficit to snatch the game back and get the winner in extra time. I’m sure fans in NY are hoping for a similar style game when the two meet again tomorrow.

Full highlights (and there are a lot of them) after the break.

Man City Wants to Win Five Trophies in Five Years

Filed under: EPL News, Highlights, Videos, and Scores | English Premier League Highlights, Manchester City, Manuel Pelligrini, Roberto Mancini

manchester-city-crest

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has issued a statement saying he fully expects Manchester City to win five trophies over the next five years. With Manuel Pelligrini expected to be the next manager of the club, you can certainly bet that that challenge has been issued to him.

“I think that next season is going to be much better. I am convinced about that. It doesn’t mean we are going to win one or two titles but in the grand scheme of things, if we look at the next five years and I could plan now, I would say I want to win five trophies in the next five years.

“That may mean we win no trophy one year and two in another but on average I want one title a year. That includes the Champions League, the Premier League or the FA Cup. Is it a realistic aim? I think it is, yes, but I am talking about five years.

“If next year we don’t win but progress our football and get to the semi-finals of the Champions League, finish second in the Premier League and lose the FA Cup final again that will be fine.

“What we are asking the new manager to do is build a squad but also a football concept and a way of working that will last for the next 10 years. The manager has a shorter span [than that]. We are asking the manager to win this season, next season and every Sunday.”

Soriano also stated that he wants to play attractive football and have a system and style in place that youth teams through to the first team can play. For his part, Soriano knows a thing or two about all of this having worked at Barcelona through their great recent years.

It’s very clear that Manchester City have very high expectations and want to be in that conversation of the world’s biggest and most successful clubs. It can’t happen overnight, but City definitely seem committed to making that happen.

Art of the Game :: “11 Series” from Ty Palmer @lofi_aesthetic

Filed under: Art, Cool Ish, Culture & Lifestyle

11 series collage

via Ty Palmer

I felt the need to challenge myself with an illustrated portrait series, so I decided I would create a series of posters of my favorite footballers to wear 1 – 11. This project gained spirit with my work with the futbol artist network. I have loved the beautiful game for as long as I can remember, and I wanted to commemorate the genius’ of the game. Each poster uses the specific color palette of either the crest or kit of the team to dictate the composition. Mixed in each piece is the respected stadiums of each player, which are lightly ghosted within the work.

* I don’t know about the rest of the OG Wingers out there, but I’m not an art dude. I want to be an art dude. I’m just not an art dude. Maybe there is something wrong with my brain that I can’t understand what makes a blue canvas with a blue line in it worth $44 million dollars. High art, most of the time, makes absolutely no sense to me. I kinnnnnd of understand why a Basquiat or a Monét or a Picasso would be expensive, or at least I can justify it, but 75% when I am looking at art at a gallery, I’m just there for the wine and the girls.

But this kind of stuff, I’m down with. Best, Pelé, Cruyff, Gerrard, Cristiano, Booby Moore, Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Maldini, Cafu, and Zoff on your choice of stretched canvas or print, ranging in size from 8 x 12 to 24 x 36, starting out at $20 bucks which is a pretty reasonable price…. yeah, I can get with this.

Check out a few of the high res joints after the jump and then go to the website to see them all. These are dope, and you are going to want one. or two.. or three… These are perfect for the footy fans dorm room, frat house, apt., man cave or penthouse. You buy three or four of them and line them up on your wall, instant conversation starters…. I might have to do that myself!
