On behalf of the players, assistant coaches and staff of the Houston Dynamo I would like to thank you for your support during Thursday’s press conference, which was hosted by the East End Chamber of Commerce, the East End Management District, the East Downtown Management District, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Camara de Empresarios Latinos de Houston. These local groups are all stakeholders in the East End and are 100% supportive of the stadium plan. Your signatures on the petition (which are being deliverd to elected officials today) to build a new stadium in the East End will surely go a long way in making our dream a reality.

This, however, is only the beginning…

More after the jump…

Dynamo fans plan to gather at the proposed stadium site this morning at 10am (corner of Dowling and Rusk) for a news conference planned by the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and two other organizations. The project’s supporters also were circulating an online petition directed at swaying Commissioners Court.

“I will keep listening until I hear from the taxpayers that this is something they really want us to do,” Commissioner Sylvia Garcia said. “I’m going to keep doing my due diligence … to assess what’s best for the county post-Ike and in today’s current economic climate.”

Things are heating up…

Houston Mayor White is asking Harris County to pitch in $10 million dollars to help drive a Dynamo stadium proposal as part of an economic stimulus package for the eastern part of downtown H-town. This article includes an interesting video. Dynamo CEO Oliver Luck describes the negotiations as “very positive. A lot of different pieces are falling into place.”

Who will be the person responsible for officially bringing this issue up at the Harris County Board of Commissioners upcoming meeting? Harris County Commissioner, Sylvia Garcia. She and the Houston Dynamo have a bit of history

Not much new on the idea of the Dynamo sharing the stadium with TSU Football. The University of Houston is loving the rent they’re receiving from AEG, and now UH wants the Dynamo to stay permanently at Robertson Stadium. This seems doubtful at this stage of the game…

Five Years With An Option To Buy?

David Beckham

Is there an option that exists for David Beckham to buy the Galaxy after his contract ends? That is what is alleged to come out in a 60 Minute special that will be aired this weekend. Naturally all of the talking heads at MLS and elsewhere have no comment, but this brings up a very interesting subject. What did MLS, AEG and the Galaxy give up to get Becks to play in MLS? Would they have gone the full distance and gone ahead and given Becka the option to buy when his contract is up? Ifanything along these lines was to ever happen would it be some sort of partnership /joint ownership with AEG? Tune in to 60 Minutes this weekend for more details.
