Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm that UEFA has rejected the protest filed by NK Maribor with regard to the ineligibility of Carlos Bocanegra.

As already indicated, the SFA confirmed Carlos was deemed eligible to play at a domestic level within the UEFA deadline in accordance with the requirements of the UEFA Regulations.

The club is pleased the matter has been dealt with swiftly as we always felt there was no case to answer and now our sole focus in on tomorrow’s Europa League qualifier at Ibrox Stadium.

Carlos Bocanegra has been granted international clearance which allows him to be a part of Rangers’ squad for tonight’s Europa League tie with Maribor in Slovenia.

The American defender signed terms with the SPL champions yesterday as he completed his transfer from French side Saint Etienne.

Bocanegra then left his home near Lyon in the early hours of this morning, flying to Frankfurt then Graz before being driven to the team’s base in Slovenia.

He arrived just before 11am local time and as he rests this afternoon, he does so knowing he has now been given the green light to start his Light Blues career.

Gers had travelled from Glasgow yesterday short of defensive cover with David Weir and Kyle Bartley injured and Sasa Papac and Steven Whittaker also hurt but suspended too.

That means Bocanegra is almost certain to join Dorin Goian at the heart of the back line, with Kirk Broadfoot and Lee Wallace the most likely players to fill the full back roles.

Alejandro Bedoya, pictured with Bocangrea above, is not in the squad for tonight as Gers could only register one more player for their pool prior to a UEFA signing deadline last night.

As such, he is now focusing on obtaining a visa from the US Embassy in Stockholm which will allow him to play in the UK with his new club after his move from Orebro.
