What’s black and cream and drawn all over?

Charlie Kratzer basement art project in his south Lexington home. Using only $10 worth of Sharpies Kratzer, the associate general counsel for Lexmark, transformed his cream colored basement room into a work of art.

Kratzer started mid-wall, with the Salon by Picasso. Then he thought, well, taking a design out to the edge of the wall wouldn’t be too overwhelming.

You’ve got to check out the room via the 360 degree video to full grasp the work and thought that has gone into this project.

Finding Their Feet Through Soccer“, from Today’s Gainesville Sun:

Elijah Thomas always had a thing for soccer. But with cerebral palsy that keeps him mostly in a wheelchair, the 11-year-old never had the opportunity until now. On a recent sweltering evening Elijah — with the help of some University of Florida volunteers — kicked ball after ball into a goal.

…”This is all he wants to do now,” said his grandmother and guardian, Kathy Thomas. “This is his favorite thing. He gets so excited that you’d think he would fall asleep on the way home, but all the way home he keeps thanking me.”…

- Man, this is what it’s all about; a little volunteering and helping some kids get their aggressions and kicks out on the field and having a great time.

The First Underground Stadium

Filed under: Architecture, Cool Ish, Stadiums

the-wall-1

If you were going to build a stadium in the desert how would you do it? If you are MZ & Partners Architects and you are building a stadium in Qatar then you build it underground and you make it the world’s first open-air, air-conditioned stadium. Besides being underground, The Wall, aka The Laptop, will have no traditional floodlights. Instead, the architects have decided to embed the lighting in the architecture which is pretty clever in my opinion. With an expected completion date in 2010, this is definitely a stadium to keep an eye on. More images after the jump.

Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris

Filed under: Cool Ish, Italy, Stadiums

stadio-ferrari-1

As much as I follow soccer, and as much as I like to think I know about it, somehow I was unaware that Sampdoria and Genoa played their home games at the coolest named stadium of all time, Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.  How this has escaped me up to this point, I don’t know. But this new knowledge is leading me on a fact finding mission to see if there was in fact someone named Luigi Ferraris. Check out some more pics of the Luigi Ferrari after the jump.

Apple Set To Drop Aluminum Macbook in October

Filed under: Apple, Cool Ish, Technology

apple-macbook-aluminum

According to some reports, Apple will drop their new aluminum Macbooks on us this October. Not only will they have a thin aluminum casing, but they also might be priced lower than pervious Macbooks. There has been chatter that Apple is going to start lowering prices on products to become even more competitive, and what better way than to drop a lower priced Macbook.  I would be very down with this.
