Champions League Finally Returns

Champions league

The Champions League makes its triumphant return today after a hiatus that seemed to last forever. I love the Champions League! Not only do we get to see some of the best clubs the world has to offer play one another, but the games are mid week, so when I sneak away to watch them, it feels like I am playing hooky. The pub is always packed when I head there for games. It is not often that you see a group of men, from a variety of backgrounds, with wildly differing careers who come together in the middle of a day to knock back some pints and let loose.

Spurs Hand it to the Gooners

Tottenham hotspurs

It’s been eight pain staking years for Tottenham and their supporters, but finally they were able to get the better of their north London rivals. Spurs gave it to Arsene’s boys, beating them 5-1 and advancing to the Carling Cup Finals. This gives Juande Ramos a chance to win a trophy in his first year with Spurs. Arsenal are still challenging for plenty of trophies, and have some great years ahead of them, but tonight, it’s Tottenham and their Hotspurs who get to celebrate.

Theo Walcott to the Rescue!

Theo Walcott

Young Theo Walcott rescued Arsenal late in the second half to salvage a draw with Tottenham in the Carling Cup semi-finals.  Monsieur Wenger with a youthful lineup, where the average age was just over 21.  After being down 1-0 at halftime, the youngsters were able to claw back in with a late equalizer from Theo Walcott.  This had to be agony for the Spurs players and their supporters alike.  This would have been Arsenal’s first home defeat in awhile, but the young ones pulled through.

Lescott Gifts Chelsea

Filed under: Chelsea, Cup Competition, Everton FC

After going down to Oldham in the FACup earlier this week, Everton crashed out of the Carling Cup against Chelsea thanks to a 90th minute own goal from Jolyon Lescott.  A tough break for this  talented young defender and for Everton in general.  See the own goal above.
