Howard Surpasses Neville Southall’s Record At Everton

Filed under: Everton FC, Tim Howard

Tim Howard

US International Tim Howard has broken the standard set by the man who was Everton’s goal keeping legend of the past, Welshman Neville Southall.

With Howard making his 100th appearance for the club this past weekend during Everton’s 3 - 1 win at West Ham and only 99 goals conceded, the Americans’ statistics better the record set by Southall during his time from 1981 - 1998 when he made over 575 appearances for the Toffees and was considered among the best in the world.

Rooney Could Get His 100th At Everton

Filed under: Everton FC, Manchester United, Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney

He’ll be turning 23 years old on Friday and Wayne Rooney has the opportunity celebrate by scoring his 100th club goal at the weekend against the club he got his start at.

With Manchester United heading to Goodison Park to face Tim Howard’s Everton on Saturday, Rooney’s unbelievable strike rate could continue after having found the back of the net in seven consecutive matches.

“I am doing well at the minute and hopefully that continues,” Rooney told reporters after scoring his ninth goal in seven games in Tuesday night’s 3-0 Champions League win over Celtic.

“I am really enjoying my football. I am enjoying the way the team is playing.

“It is always nice for any player to score 100 goals. If I can do that back at Everton, where I started, it would be really pleasing. If I do score at Everton, whether it was my first or my 100th, it would be really sweet.”

Filed under: Everton FC, Transfer News

TRIPLE UPDATE -  Charges dropped…. Good news for Pienaar.

DOUBLE UPDATE - South African Pienaar has been arrested after a woman alleged the midfielder assaulted her.

UPDATE - Pienaar is out for 6 weeks after suffering a break in his metatarsal after a heavy challenge during Everton’s 1 - 1 friendly against PSV Eindhoven.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for David Moyes. Maybe he’ll be able to get the directors to open up that kitty of theirs now.

Steve Pienaar

South African Steve Pienaar has finalized his permanent transfer to Everton after David Moyes and the board at Goodison Park completed his 2 Million Euro move from Borussia Dortmund and signing a three year contract.

The former Ajax product has featured in 35+ matches so far in the Premiership campaign and looks set to have South Africa’s 2010 World Cup hopes resting squarely on his shoulders.

Everton to Become The Latest EPL Trophy Wife?

anil-ambani.jpg

What  would you do if you were the sixth richest person on the planet with an estimated fortune of $42 b-b-b-b-billion? Well if you are Anil Ambani and you want to keep up with the latest billionaire hobby, you look at buying a team in the English Premier League. Word around the campfire is that Ambani has his eyes set on taking over Everton. It’s no secret that Kenwright is looking for a new, deep pocketed suitor to come in and help Everton challenege the bigger, richer clubs.  Could Ambani be Kenwright’s guy?

Oh, on a side note, his brother Mukesh is worth slightly more $$$ than Anil, with an estimated fortune of $43 billion (whats a billion amongst billionaires anyway?). The brothers had a pretty big, public split after their father’s death, split their fathers company in half and pretty much don’t like each other. Imagine two brothers worth a combined $88 billi! Oh, and if you haven’t seen the 60 story (yes I said 60) house that Mukesh is building for himself. Apparently the house is costing $1 billion to $2 billion to build. Check out some pictures after the jump.

Bill Kenwright - Everton Need a New Owner

bill-kenwright

Bill Kenwright, aka the Chairman of Everton Football Club has publicly stated that they need to find themselves a billionaire owner. Lots of big time money has been flowing into the Premier League, capped off with ADUG taking over Manchester City. Kenwright believes stated that “the club has always punched above its weight”, but that they can’t go on with the financial constraints they have. He goes on to say “I want Everton to have a billionaire, but it is not me. My shares have been for sale from the day I bought in.” When I first read this article I was going to call Kenwright out for wanting to sell his shares and bring in someone else. It seemed to me that he was looking for an easy way out and an easy way to make a lot of scratch off the sale. Then I started reading that Kenwright is a lifelong Everton fan and that he is only one of two Premier League chairmen to not take a salary. Sounds like the dude really loves the club and that he has the best interests of Everton Football Club at heart. So does this mean the only option for club owners is to sell to a bajillionaire?

Kind of looking that way….what do you guys think of all this?

Obinna To Inter, Immediately Sent On Loan To Everton

UPDATE - David Moyes and Everton have been able to sign Louis Saha from Manchester United, but have admitted that Victor Obinna’s Work Permit application has been denied by the Home Office.

Obinna Nsofor

Nigeria’s Silver Medal winner Victor Obinna killed it so bad at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with 3 goals and 2 assists that clubs were literally waiting for him the moment he touched down back in Italy.

San Siro boss Jose Mourinho signed the 21 year old Obinna away from Chievo on a three year deal and immediately sent him to England and David Moyes’ Everton on a season long loan, reuniting Obinna with Olympic partner Victor Anichebe.

What Ever Happened To Thomas Gravesen?

Filed under: Everton FC, Real Madrid

Thomas Gravesen

Remember the days when Thomas Gravesen was killing it back in 2005, having played over 140 times for Everton?

Yeah, you remember… The big move to La Liga and Real Madrid, where he only spent a year (34 appearances with a goal) before falling out with seemingly everybody at Madrid before the great Dane was on his way to Glasgow Celtic before the start of the 2006-07 season. Gravesen would only feature 22 times before being sent out on loan back to Everton in 2007/08 season where he saw action in just 5 matches.

Now Gravesen and Glasgow Celtic have come to an agreement that the 32 year old will be released from his contract and allowed to search for a new club ahead of the 2008/09 campaign.

More Gravesen pics after the Jump, but the last one is NSFW ….

Loss To The Fire Has Moyes Worried

David Moyes

For the second year in a row (last year against Real Salt Lake) Premiership side Everton FC has come to the United States for pre-season matches and walked away with a loss.

While it’s obviously not the end of the world as they are preparing for a long, long season, the 2-nil loss to the Chicago Fire (who actually knew they were even playing this match) has Everton head coach David Moyes publicly wondering about his attack.
