Oldham Athletic

One of the lower clubs in England that we’ve supported since we were little, League One side Oldham Athletic scalped Premier League Everton 1-0 in Saturday’s FA Cup.  Everton are at present time tied for 6th place in the Barclay’s Premiership.

Oldham, tied for 12th place on the League One table, nailed the winner in the 45th minute, courtesy Gary McDonald.  McDonald’s long distance effort in the first half injury time beat Everton back up keeper Stefan Wessels, who looked to get caught napping just before the half-time interval.

Although there were changes from the regular starting 11, David Moyes felt his selections were strong enough, with Stubbs, Hibbert, Carsley, Gravesen, Pienaar, Johnson and McFadden taking the pitch at Goodison Park.

It should be mentioned the Yakubu did hit the post in the second half, but with only two shots on target through 90 minutes, Moyes will be bitterly disappointed with his side’s 3rd round exit.

Here at The Original Winger, we’re hoping for Oldham Athletic to draw Manchester United and then, all will be right in the world.
