Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Russian International Pavel Pogrebnyak who will initially join the Club until the summer.

The 28-year-old striker joins from German Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart having signed for the Club in 2009 from Zenit St Petersburg.

During his two-year spell at Zenit, Pogrebnyak scored 22 goals in 58 appearances and won both the national league in 2007 and Russian Super Cup in 2008 where he scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow in a closely contested final.

Pogrebnyak started his career at his hometown club Spartak Moscow, progressing through the club’s youth system where he joined aged 6, and made his first senior start in 2002 for Spartak.

He spent 2003, 2004 & 2005 on loan to Baltika Kaliningrad, Khimki & Shinnik Yaroslavl respectively before moving to Tom Tomsk in 2006 where his impressive performances and 13 goals in 26 appearances sparked interest from Zenit St Petersburg.

He made his international debut for Russia in friendly against Latvia in 2006 and scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win on his debut. An injury forced him out of the 2008 European Championships but he came back to become a regular for his national team.

He has scored 8 goals in 30 appearances and was part of the Russia team that topped Qualifying Group B for this summer’s European Championships.

By trading SW6 for W12, QPR’s latest signing Bobby Zamora has followed in the footsteps of R’s Manager Mark Hughes, who was the striker’s gaffer at Fulham last season.

And the 31 year-old brings vital top-flight experience to the Rangers dressing room.

As a young player, Zamora burst onto the scene at Brighton & Hove Albion, scoring a remarkable 77 goals in 130 league and cup appearances.

It wasn’t long before his goal-scoring exploits attracted the attention of Tottenham Hotspur, who he joined in 2003 for a reported £1.5million.

Twelve months  later, Zamora headed for East London to join West Ham United where he remained for four-and-a-half years, enjoying many memorable moments.

At the end of the 2004/05 season his solitary strike in the Championship Play-Off Final against Preston sent the Hammers back to the top-flight.

The following year West Ham finished in the top half of the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final, which Liverpool eventually won on penalties. Fellow ‘R’ Djibril Cisse was on the scoresheet for the Reds that day.

Zamora signed for Fulham in the summer of 2008 and found his scoring touch early on with a stunning strike against Celtic in pre-season.

And he didn’t take long to record his first Premier League goal for the Whites either with a superb solo effort against Bolton in September 2008.

Zamora enjoyed a fine 2009/10 campaign, firing Fulham to the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Had it not been for an Achilles injury towards the end of that season he could well have led the line for England at the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.

He was called up to Fabio Capello’s squad in August 2010 and earned his first cap at Wembley during England’s 2-1 friendly victory over Hungary.

On September 10th, then-Fulham boss Hughes rewarded Zamora with a new four-year deal but incredibly, just one day later, he broke his leg at the Cottage against Wolves.

On his first start for the Club following his return from injury seven months later, Zamora fired Fulham back into the top half of the table, grabbing a brace against Blackpool in a 3-0 win.

Zamora notched an impressive six goals in just 12 appearances during the 2010/11 season and his form was again noted by Capello, who called him up for England’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland at Wembley on June 4th.

A Danny Murphy penalty in the 14th minute would give the visitors Fulham the early lead, but Argentine Denis Stracqualursi would level at 1 – 1 with his first goal for Everton in the 27th minute and Marouane Fellaini with the game winner in the 73rd to put the home side through to the next round.
