Healy Investigated For Playing The Flute

David Healy

Fulham and Northern Ireland striker David Healy will be investigated by not only his club Fulham, but also the Irish Footaball Association after his pretending to play the flute after coming on as a substitute during Fulham’s 3-1 win over Glasgow Celtic.

Although apologizing immediately after the match, Healy’s flute playing gesture riled up the 11,000 Celtic supporters in attendance due to the nature of the incident, symbolic of the flute-playing of Orange Order marchers which is highly offensive to Roman Catholics.

Paul Gascoigne pulled the flute imitation out during the famous 1998 Old Firm match at Parkhead. The gesture infuriated the Celtic home crowd as Gazza was fined 20,000 Pound and had his life threatened by the IRA.

Quite an Offer

Mike Tyson

“I know all about Gazza and I feel like I can help him”.

Former Heavyweight Champ Mike Tyson will be in England on a “Dinner Tour” throughout the UK and has expressed his desire to have a sit down with Paul Gascoigne to talk about everything that has gone on lately with the brilliant former England International.

Having already counted Wayne Rooney as one of his confidants, Iron Mike feels like he has something to offer to Gazza, the man who spent two weeks in Psychiatric Care after a disturbance in a Newcastle Hotel in February.

So what happens when it’s all over

As the story of Paul Gascoigne’s detainment under the Mental Health Act continues to grow, it got me thinking about the players that pour their hearts and souls into the game and suddenly find out their not good enough anymore, their not needed or injury and health have finally caught up to them.

The first time I’d met Gazza was back in 1997 at Ibrox. Ubusuku Abukusumo and myself were lucky enough to head over to Glasgow Rangers to train for 3 1/2 months as part of the Project 40 program (which sent young players overseas to not only train with big clubs, but to get great life experience) and the Richard Gough/MLS deal. After getting off our flight and checking into The Swallow Hotel down the street, Buka and I made our way over to Ibrox to meet with Archie Knox (2nd in command under Walter Smith) to find out our schedules and meet some of the guys.

Fog on the Tynes

Newcastle lost to Arsenal 3-0 this morning in the FA Cup and it got me thinking about what Kevin Keegan really needs. After Shearer turned down the number 2, there’s a man by the name of Gazza that deserves a look. Yeah, he MIGHT have had some issues back in the day, but when I was training up at Rangers back in MLS’ 97 offseason I was lucky enough to see one of the greatest players EVER up close every day in training for two and a half months. And I got to see some of the pranks on the field and more importantly, in the locker room.  He and Ally McCoist together were unreal.
