Take another look at Charlie Davies’ opening goal against Egypt for a sec. Yes, I know there was a collision between the defenders and the keeper, but take a look at what Davies did after that to create a goal scoring opportunity.
Starting with his back to the goal and facing the corner flag, he bodies off a defender and while spinning around, cuts the ball back with his left foot and gets his shot off in the same motion while recognizing in a split second that one, the defender was closing him down so he needed to get the shot off quickly and two, the chance that El Hadary would be diving low while trying to recover at the near post was probably high, Davies scoops his shot with his right foot rather than taking another step or touch of the ball.
Just don’t think that goal is getting the respect it deserves…
The goal against FC Porto was nice, but the goal at the Emirates was a bust as well. His personality is definitely starting to come through.
Florian Trinks could be the new poster boy for substitutes after this absolute bust of a game winner in the European U-17 Championship final against Holland.
Watch this over and over… The fact that he was able to get around this to heel it with the intensity AND accuracy that he did, absolutely incredible finish…
Incredible run and probably could have gone down four or five times under some of those challenges…
1. Crew’s Emmanuel Ekpo - Run, touch around and finish.
2. United’s Jaime Moreno - Cheeky chip finish
3. Rapids’ Kosuke Kimura - Following up the play and finishing far post.
4. Fire’s Marco Pappa - Near post finish off Blanco’s lay off.
5. Dynamo’s Brian Ching - Snap header off a corner.
Going with Moreno’s finish because of how difficult it is on the technical side, Ekpo’s following up because of the run.
